Max Payne Movie Tops Box Office! All of 3D Realms took a couple of hours on Friday afternoon and we all partook of the Max Payne movie. Turns out a lot of folks joined us across the US, as the movie was the #1 moneymaker this weekend topping the previous #1 slot holder for the last two weeks (Beverly Hills Chihuahua), as well as the other newly released movie this weekend ("W" by Oliver Stone). One quick note if you have not seen it (or plan to more than once)... Stick around through the credits. There is a small scene tacked on after the full credit scroll. Not going to say what it was, but if you're the kind of person that gets up and walks out the second the credits start, you might want to wait. ;) Need tickets? Get them here.

Duke Nukem 3D XBLA Review RoundupSince it was released just about a month ago, Duke Nukem 3D has garnered a lot of attention and acclaim. Sales have gone extremely well (take a look at the leaderboards)! That's a lot of fans of Duke in a short period of time. It's also been at the top or near there of Xbox Live activity since it was released, even cracking the Top 10 list of major Xbox games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Halo 3, etc... If you have an Xbox 360, and haven't checked it out, you should. If you don't want to take our word for it, take the word of some of these websites: Chud.com: (9.5/10 - full review here) "An absolute must-buy for any FPS fans, or anyone who was too young to play it when it first came out. Gamespot: (8/10 - full review here) "For fans of the game and the series, rest assured that all of the original, groundbreaking gameplay and content are present here. TeamXbox: (8/10 - full review here) "Duke Nukem 3D stays true to its roots and gives gamers what they want. IGN: (8.5/10 - full review here) "One of the original ESRB nightmares is back. Official Xbox Magazine: (8.5/10 - full review here) "the weapon stash - notably the pipebombs and Shrinker - remains one of the genre’s most unique and fun to wield… Jolt UK: (8/10 - full review here) "it’s still a better bargain than some of the other games currently asking for 800 of your MS Points, and it will probably last you longer, too. 1up.com: (A- rating - full review here) "I wish developers today weren't too afraid of being sued to make games like this. Eurogamer: (8/10 - full review here) "If you asked a horny, gore-fixated teenage boy to describe his perfect game, he'd probably have described Duke Nukem 3D. Some others worth checking out are Ultra Ninjas (8/10), nzgamer.com (8/10), and Gamepro (4.5/5). There's also sites like Gamerankings.com or metacritic.com which collect such reviews. It's all good! :) Better yet, don't take the word of any of them. Just go buy your copy today! Posted by Joe Siegler at 2:11 PM | Permalink

Max Payne Movie StuffThe Max Payne movie opens in theatres in the US this coming Friday. As the movie is due out in a couple of days, there's a ton of press out there now about it. We're going to point you at a few of the more notable videos for the movie that you may not have seen. First up is a clip from the movie, which shows some action with Max and Jim Bravura in the Aesir building. Next up is a clip which talks to the director of the movie (John Moore) about adapting the original videogame for the big screen: Next is a very cool video. This is the live action comic from the beginning of the movie. It definitely makes you feel like the game did. You'll want to check this out for sure: Finally, there's an interview you will want to read. It is with Max himself, Mark Wahlberg. In it, he talks about the pressures of playing the character. He also admits to not having played the videogame much himself at all. Check it out here. CS: What did you like about the game? Posted by Joe Siegler at 2:27 PM | Permalink

Always Bet on DukeA week ago Duke Nukem 3D was released to Xbox LIVE Arcade. The response has been phenomenal - the feedback we've gotten on it has been quite positive. Both from old school Dukers reliving the game, or folks who have never played it before. Both newcomers and old Dukers seem to love the new update. This is borne out in the weekly statistics released Tuesday night by Major Nelson of Microsoft. Duke Nukem 3D was the #1 ranked game on LIVE Arcade, topping such recent Arcade heavyweights such as Braid & Castle Crashers. If that wasn't cool enough, Duke also cracked the top 10 of ALL games played on Xbox LIVE - including big time titles like Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and Grand Theft Auto IV. Thanks to all who have made the re-release of Duke Nukem 3D a major success! If you have an Xbox 360, and haven't checked out Duke Nukem 3D, what are you waiting for? Christmas? Two new Duke Nukem Forever Screenshots! As we've been telling you, this past week, Duke Nukem 3D was released on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. One of the features of the game was a cool concept art gallery. It was tied into the Xbox 360 Achievement system. As you got more achievements, you would unlock more old concept art. However, if you completed the game, and got all 200 Gamerscore, the entire art gallery would be unlocked, revealing two new Duke Nukem Forever screenshots that had not been released anywhere before. These shots leaked out to the net over the weekend, so we decided to bring you some official versions of the shots. You don't want to read us talking about them, so let's get to the shots.. Click on the thumbnails above for larger versions of the pictures! Posted by Joe Siegler at 2:06 PM | Permalink

Duke Nukem 3D (DOS) Price DropThe response to the XBLA release of Duke Nukem 3D has been quite spectacular - far greater than we had thought it would be. In celebration of this new release, we have decided to drop the price of the PC original. We still sell the good old classic PC version of Duke Nukem 3D, and effective immediately, we have dropped the price. The purchase price for Duke Nukem 3D for the PC is now $10 (down from the previous $19.95). This is the Atomic Edition v1.5, which we have been selling since late 1996. If you have never checked out the original version, you can do so for a cheaper price! A few caveats about that - this is the DOS original, and if you have Windows XP (or Vista), you can run into a few problems with running old DOS games there. There are a few third party programs available which can assist in this matter. First is DOSBox, a program that will let you play most every DOS game better on XP/Vista. Not only can that help with the original Duke3D, it can help you run most any of our older legacy titles. The other option is JFDuke3D. A few years back, we released the source code for Duke Nukem 3D, and Jonathan Fowler created a Windows version of the PC original. You need the Atomic Edition to run JFDuke, but it is worth it if you have problems running the DOS original. So if you have never checked out the original Duke Nukem 3D on your computer, you can do so now at a cheaper price! Order today! Posted by Joe Siegler at 2:07 PM | Permalink

Duke Nukem 3D XBLA ThemeAs we noted yesterday, other items were released besides Duke Nukem 3D itself on Xbox LIVE Arcade. We also released some gamer pic packs and a theme. We've had several requests for pictures showing what the theme looks like. This news item is an answer to those requests. Here are four pictures, showing the theme on the four blades it is used on (Xbox LIVE, Games, Media, & System). The fifth blade (Marketplace) is not customizable by themes, so there's no picture of that. Click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger version. Additionally, there are three picture packs. George Broussard had posted a screen capture of some of the pic packs from his Twitter feed, you can see that picture below. It is not all of the pictures, but is a sample from all three packs.

Duke Nukem 3D Walkthrough Now Available!
In honor of the release of Duke Nukem 3D Available now is the official walkthrough for Duke Nukem 3D from 3D Realms. This will show you how to complete every level in the game, where all the secrets are, and probably teach you a few things here and there that you never knew about the game. This walkthrough works for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The screenshots themselves are technically from the Xbox 360 version of the game, but with one minor exception in a single level, they're the same maps, so you can use them on both versions. This was something that was long overdue on our site, but with the release of the game on Xbox Live Arcade, we thought now was the time. You can view the walkthrough here: http://www.3drealms.com/duke3d/walkthrough/index.html We also have walkthroughs for Shadow Warrior & Max Payne 1 on our website too. ![]() Posted by Joe Siegler at 11:14 AM | Permalink

Duke Nukem 3D XBLA is out!Available now on Xbox LIVE Arcade is Duke Nukem 3D! That isn't all, either, there are a few items available for download. Here is a list of what is available right now: If you want to see what the gamerpics look like you can check out this picture from George's Twitter feed, there's a sampling of the pics there. Additionally, the full review from IGN is out. They give it an 8.5, and their "Editor's Choice" Award. Sorry for the quick & dirty story here, but I'd rather go play Duke then write news stories about it. :) Stop reading, go buy the game on XBLA now! Posted by Joe Siegler at 9:27 AM | Permalink

A couple of late night Duke 3D UpdatesLate Friday night a few things happened relating to Duke Nukem 3D we wanted to bring you. First off, is a multiplayer preview of the game from IGN. A couple of days ago, some of us at 3D Realms played against some guys from IGN, TeamXbox.com, & Gamespy for some online Duke play. First, we started off with about four levels in co-op, and then moved on to some Dukematch in probably the two most played Dukematch levels of all time, those being Hollywood Holocaust & Stadium. George posted a few screenshots from these games on his Twitter feed, so check 'em out (1 / 2) if you haven't. Their review talks about one of the guy's accounts playing against us, and we all had a great time. The game went well, we had lots of fun, and had no lag, either. Great times. IGN's rather personal review of the multplayer session can be read online here. Sometimes reviews on sites such as IGN and the like feel disconnected, this one does not. So much so that one of the things the IGN guys did was something that most of us at 3D Realms had not tried in the game, so that was pretty cool. You'll enjoy the review. Second is the note that the official Xbox.com Duke Nukem 3D page has now gone live. It has some screenshots and information about the game. Go check it out over at Xbox.com here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/d/dukenukem3dxboxlivearcade/default.htm Posted by Joe Siegler at 12:22 AM | Permalink

Duke Nukem 3D to arrive on Sep 24thIf you were watching last night, you saw Duke Nukem 3D make a short appearance on the latest episode of Gametrailers TV on the Spike TV channel. You also saw the big news about Duke...
Duke Nukem 3D for the Xbox LIVE Arcade will be released on Wednesday Sep 24th!
The number of points the game will cost has not yet been announced by Microsoft, so we cannot bring you that info. But it will be here in a very short time. Generally Xbox LIVE Arcade games are released at 2AM Pacific Time on the release date, but that can vary. You will want to keep your eyes peeled to Major Nelson's website, where things like that are generally announced in detail. We will have our own page for the site up shortly, which will have lots of cool info. In the meantime, if you'd like to discuss the game, you can participate in our forums here, or on the Duke3D section over on xbox.com. Finally, if you'd like to see the episode of Gametrailers TV from last night with the announcement, you can view it online here at the show's website for free! Duke Nukem 3D on GameTrailers TV!As we edge closer to the release of Duke Nukem 3D for the Xbox Live Arcade, some big coverage is starting to happen. Like this one. Gametrailers TV will be running a feature on the game this coming weekend. Gametrailers TV is hosted by an old friend of our company, Geoff Keighley. Geoff will be covering Duke Nukem 3D during the news segment of the show. In addition to talking about the game, Geoff will be showing some footage. I'd expect something cool, as Geoff is an old school gaming fan. Also on this episode of the show is coverage from the PAX Expo, and first footage of Need for Speed Undercover, as well as the first footage of playable zombies in Left 4 Dead. However, if you're reading this on the 3DR site, then your primary focus will be Duke Nukem, and we've been told Duke fans will enjoy this news segment. The show can be seen on Spike TV. Spike TV is available on DirecTV, Dish Network, and most cable carriers. Check your local listings for the exact channel in your area. This particular episode will be airing on Friday night at 1AM Eastern Time (this is Friday night going into Saturday). However, after it airs, it will also be available a few places online. Some time Saturday during the AM, the episode will appear on the Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace in their TV section. Additionally, the episode will be available to watch on gametrailers.com at 1:30AM Pacific Time on Saturday the 13th. If you do not have access to Spike, you will want to make use of these other venues. If you do have Spike, set your TiVo! And oh yeah, by the way.... Gametrailers TV will be world premiering the release date for the game in this episode, so you will definitely want to tune in for that! Posted by Joe Siegler at 1:49 PM | Permalink

Gamespot Video on Duke Nukem 3DThe Duke Nukem 3D coverage continues to roll on, and today we are bringing you a video segment from Gamespot TV. Gamespot has a weekly web based TV show called "On the Spot", and this week's episode (Sep 4) has a segment on Duke Nukem 3D. The entire episode can be watched here, but if you want go catch just the five minute segment on Duke Nukem 3D for the Xbox LIVE Arcade, go skip to time marker 18:15 in the video. The reviewer shows off the replay system a lot (partially because he keeps dying :) ). They have several nice things to say about the game, so check out the video above! Apogee ThemesThis company has been around for awhile - it started in 1987 in Scott Miller's bedroom. In that time, we've been involved in a lot of games. From the start through 1996, we published games under the name "Apogee Software". That name has been revived recently, but in the classic era of Apogee, we were known for having a theme song at the front of our game releases. It's for that reason this story exists. Recently, a fan put together a video which shows the progression of the theme song from its earliest use through the last game (to date) to use it, that being Stargunner. Check out this video, it's pretty cool to check out if you're an old school Apogee fan! It also includes some bonus themes, one of which hasn't been released before. :) Posted by Joe Siegler at 7:23 AM | Permalink

More Duke Nukem 3D Xbox LIVE previews are out!As promised yesterday, several more previews of Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox LIVE Arcade are out. We're here to bring you three of them. Let's just get straight to it.. Teamxbox.com: First up we have a preview from Teamxbox.com, which follows up from their interview with George Broussard from yesterday. This preview has a lot going for it, including a couple of gameplay videos, screenshots, the works! These aren't all the same screenshots that you saw in the Shack preview from last night, so you'll want to check 'em out. The gameplay videos are good for those who aren't terribly familiar with the game, as they show actual gameplay in the first two levels, and not just video of the new features. Here's a few quotes from this preview: I can see that someone finished the first level in a bit more than 13 seconds…but the little camera icon indicates that the clip of the player’s action is available, so I can pull it up and view what was done to get that time. IGN.com: Second, we have a preview from IGN.com. IGN's preview is heavy on game videos, with four of them in all. They cover plenty of ground, ranging from topics like tipping a stripper, usage of the replay system, & other gameplay stuff. Here's some quotes from their preview, which can be viewed here. Quotes: I have to say that I was amazed how well Duke holds up after a dozen years. Official Xbox Magazine: Finally, we have a short preview from the official Xbox Magazine website. Here's a bit of what they had to say... The Arcade rebirth brings a wealth of new features to the table, including eight-player online co-op and Dukematch, recordable and uploadable user gameplay clips, Vision camera support for multiplayer lobbies, and – get this – TiVo. We will continue to bring you more previews as they pop up, as well as our own page here on 3drealms.com for the title. Posted by Joe Siegler at 9:34 PM | Permalink

Duke Nukem 3D Xbox LIVE Arcade Shacknews PreviewThe first of the Duke Nukem 3D previews has hit the web! Available now over at Shacknews is their "Hands on" with the game. They go into several parts of the game, but talk at length about the replay system. They also hit details on the Dukematch matchmaking, how the game plays on a console, and much other coolness. Here's a few quotes from their hands on preview.. Considering that Duke 3D never had an ubiquitous online matchmaking system, Xbox Live should provide fans with the best multiplayer experience in the game's history. In addition to the preview, they have a two minute video showing you the replay system in action. They also have a bunch of screenshots showing various things in the game, one of which is how the Live camera is used in multiplayer lobbies! We know you don't want to read about it here, you want to go read the whole thing. So go hit Shacknews now. Come get some! Posted by Joe Siegler at 12:06 AM | Permalink

Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox LIVE Arcade
We're very pleased to announce that "Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox LIVE Arcade" will be coming to your Xbox 360 console soon! As has been reported around the net today, we can confirm that the game has indeed passed final certification with Microsoft on Friday the 15th of August (on our first try, no less). That means the game is done - it is now in the hands of Microsoft. At this time we cannot give you details on release date or points cost, as we do not have that information. There's plenty of really cool stuff in this new update to a classic title. While we're not quite ready to divulge everything yet, we can tell you this. There is a preview available now in the October 2008 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine. This issue of the magazine is hitting subscribers' mailboxes starting today, and will be available on newsstands in a few days. Some of the folks from the Official Xbox Magazine have been playing it, and have written up a preview about the game and their thoughts on the game, having played it. You definitely won't want to miss that. Look for online previews of the game to start appearing on August 26th. We're really excited about this release - and we hope you will be too! More info on the way - stay tuned! Posted by Joe Siegler at 4:49 PM | Permalink

It was done by the gaming website "Sadie's Gaming Infection" at the recent Comic Con convention. Jon talks about how Duke Nukem has affected his life, how he came up with the voice originally, and general other remarks about Duke Nukem. Check it out: Posted by Joe Siegler at 10:49 AM | Permalink
